Plum variety Honey white (Honey yellow)
Honey white, or Honey yellow, is an early ripening variety of domestic plums (Prunus domestica) of Ukrainian origin. Bred in the Donetsk branch of the Institute of Horticulture UAAS by breeder L.I. Taranenko. The zoning zone in Ukraine is wide (including the northern regions, which is facilitated by the unpretentiousness of the variety). In Russia, the variety is successfully grown in the Central Black Earth Region, but gardeners also get good results in the Moscow region.
The trees are tall, under favorable conditions they reach a height of 5 - 6 meters. Flower buds are abundantly laid on one-year growth. The crown is rounded, medium thickened, with a small number of main branches.
The fruits are large (weighing from 40 to 50 grams), oval or round-pear-shaped. The skin is dense, yellow in color, transparent, with a medium-intensity white waxy bloom. The cover color rarely appears on the fruit and is an orange blush on the sunny side of the fruit. The seeds are medium in size, round in shape, semi-detached from the pulp.
The pulp is rich yellow or greenish-yellow, dense, juicy, aromatic, the taste is very sweet, with a honey flavor, but not cloying, set off by a pleasant sourness. Tasting score of honey white plum - 4.5 points. Fruits of universal use: they are used mainly fresh, but they are also widely used in cooking in the manufacture of desserts and canning (compotes, syrups, jams, preserves, marshmallows, pie fillings, etc.). Fruit transportability is high.
Flowering takes place early. Fruit ripening is also early, it falls at the end of July - beginning of August.
The variety is high-yielding, winter-hardy and frost-resistant. The trees tolerate severe frosts and light spring frosts well. Drought resistance is high. Resistance to major diseases is good.
This plum is self-fertile. Among the best pollinators, Ukrainian varieties are distinguished first of all: Vengerka Donetskaya, Vengerka Donetskaya early, Renklod Karbysheva.
The main advantages of honey white plum are: large fruits, which taste and aroma resemble natural honey; early maturation; high rates of productivity, winter hardiness and frost resistance; universal use of fruits, excellent transportability, unpretentious care.
Among the main disadvantages: the very large size of the trees, which requires a lot of space in the garden when planting.
