Tomato variety Shuttle
Canning tomatoes is a whole science, and the main thing in it is to choose the right tomato. Agree, fruits of an oblong shape and small size are very conveniently placed in a jar. It is for lovers of whole-fruit canning that a variety called the Shuttle is suitable. It was created at the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Growing". The application for registration was filed in 1993, the variety got into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation in 1997. Approved for cultivation in the Central, Volgo-Vyatka and West Siberian regions, suitable for open ground. Recommended for garden plots, small farms and household plots. Not a hybrid.
Description
The plant is beautiful, bristle-type fruiting. Refers to standard tomatoes, in which growth is limited independently. The bush is erect, strong, 40 - 45 cm high. There are few leaves, which allows the fruits to be evenly illuminated. The stalk is thickened, short, does not fall over. Shoot formation at the Shuttle is weak. Leaves of intermediate type, dark green, normal size, medium corrugated surface, with a slight gloss. The inflorescence is compact, simple type. The first fruit cluster in the variety is laid over 6 - 7 leaves, then appears every 1 - 2 leaves. The brushes are dense, each has 7-10 ovaries. The peduncle is articulated. The stem and shoots are covered with light pubescence.
The fruit is elongated-oval in shape, similar to pepper-shaped, there is a spout at the top. The size is small, the average weight is 23 - 55 grams, sometimes 100 grams. The surface is smooth, the skin is dense, but not thick, glossy, at the stage of ripeness it turns red. The pulp is fleshy, moderately dense and juicy, with few seeds - the number of nests is 2 - 3. The aroma is pleasant, tomato. The taste is good, sweet and sour, but not very pronounced.
Variety characteristics
- The shuttle belongs to the early maturing - depending on the weather, the first tomatoes ripen 82 - 121 days after full shoots appear;
- the fruiting period lasts from the second decade of June to October. Unripe fruits ripen well;
- the yield is stable. According to the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation, the yield of marketable fruits by region is as follows:
- Central - 226 - 269 c / ha, this is 75 - 117 c / ha higher than the standard of Alpatiev 905 A;
- Volgo-Vyatsky - 220 - 441 c / ha, at the level of Nepryadva and Solnechny tomato standards;
- West Siberian - 160 - 412 c / ha, also at the level taken for the Iskorka and Solnechny standards;
- Omsk Region - the maximum yield was achieved here, amounting to 792 c / ha, 45 c / ha higher than the Iskorka standard;
- according to other sources, up to 8 kg of products are removed from one bush of the Shuttle, which is a very good indicator for a low-growing variety;
- the immunity of the tomato is not high enough. Medium resistant to phytophthora of vegetative mass;
- the variety is cold-resistant, even in cool and rainy summers it will not leave without a crop;
- ripe tomatoes are not prone to cracking;
- the transportability of the fruits is very good - long-term transportation does not spoil their presentation;
- the purpose of the fruit is universal. They are consumed fresh, they are suitable for salting, whole-fruit canning, processing into tomato products.
Agrotechnics
It is best to grow the variety in seedlings. Sowing seedlings can be started in late February - early March, given the climatic conditions of the region. The seedlings of the Shuttle are planted in a permanent place at the age of two months. If the differences between day and night temperatures are noticeable, while the seedlings have not taken root, it can be covered with foil. Planting pattern - 40 cm between bushes, row spacing 50 cm.The compactness of the plant saves space on the garden bed, so the planting can be compacted up to 7 - 9 plants per 1 square meter. Watering is carried out as needed. During the growing season, tomatoes are fed 3-4 times using complex fertilizers or organic matter. Form a plant in 3 - 4 stems. Due to the low shoot-forming ability, there is no need for pinching. Tie to a support only if necessary. Do not forget that the variety can be subject to diseases, therefore, preventive examinations and treatments must be carried out without fail.
The uniqueness of the variety is in its reliability and cold resistance, which allows you to grow a good harvest of tomatoes even in a short and cold summer. Chelnok's agricultural technology is very simple, so even an inexperienced gardener can grow it. You can collect seeds for further breeding yourself. The only drawback is the lack of immunity of the variety, which requires preventive spraying to prevent the development of the disease.
