Tomato variety Ladies fingers
Unusual and attractive appearance, productivity, unpretentiousness and decent taste - this is how many gardeners describe the ladies' fingers tomatoes. The author who singled out this interesting species is Lyubov Myazina, she owns quite a few varieties that are loved by tomato growers. The applicant and originator is IE Kudryavtseva Elizaveta Romanovna, she is also the patent holder. The exclusive seller of seeds of this variety on the Russian market is the Aelita company. In 2006, the variety was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia with admission in all regions. Recommended for growing in open ground and under film shelters in personal subsidiary plots. Not a hybrid.
Description
The plant is a determinant type, reaching a height of about 60 cm, the bush itself limits growth, forming an inflorescence at the top of the whip. In greenhouse conditions, tomatoes can grow up to a meter in height. Shoot formation is good, leafiness is moderate. Leaves of medium size, usual type, green or dark green, slightly wrinkled. The flowers are small, light yellow, collected in a simple type of inflorescence. In each fruit cluster, 5 - 6 ovaries are formed. From 4 to 6 brushes can form on the main stem. The peduncle of the variety is without articulation.
The shape of the fruit of Ladies' fingers does not reflect the name very well, it is rather pear-shaped, slightly elongated. Fruits are elastic, thick-walled, smooth, however, sometimes slight ribbing may appear. The skin is very firm. An unripe tomato is colored in light green shades, when ripe it becomes deep red. The pulp is fleshy, moderately juicy, dense, aromatic, contains few seeds. There are only 2 seed chambers, sometimes 3. The taste is sweet and sour, tomato. Many call it ordinary, unremarkable. The State Register rated the taste as good. The tomato weighs about 52 grams, the length is from 5 to 10 cm. L. Myazina declares a little more weight - up to 70 grams.
Variety characteristics
- In terms of ripening, Ladies fingers belongs to early maturing crops. The period from the emergence of full shoots to the beginning of ripening lasts 100 - 110 days. Fruiting occurs from June to September, and even longer in the southern regions;
- the yield is excellent, a hardworking tomato, according to the State Register, brings up to 15 kg per 1 square meter under film shelters, although 2.7 kg are harvested in the open field from the same plot. The author of the variety Myazina gives data on 2.5 kg per plant;
- disease resistance is very high, the tomato is practically not exposed to phytophthora. Numerous reviews confirm the presence of high immunity;
- resistance to adverse weather conditions is also great. The plant shows good results despite an increase in temperature or, conversely, a cold snap, when the thermometer drops to 10 ° C. Dry periods are not terrible for culture;
- I would especially like to note the quality of the fruits of Ladies' fingers. Thanks to the strong skin and dense structure of the pulp, tomatoes do not crack, do not suffer from mechanical damage (for example, they are not afraid of hail). Even if tomatoes lie on damp ground for a long time, they are not subject to rotting;
- the harvest after ripening can wait for a busy tomato grower, the fruits do not fall off and do not overripe;
- separate praise deserves the ability of the crop of this variety to maintain its presentation even after long-term transportation. Keeping quality is also high, tomatoes that have not lost their taste can decorate the New Year's table. True, with long storage, the density of the pulp decreases;
- the way of use is universal. First of all, tomatoes are valued for their excellent qualities, suitable for whole-fruit canning and pickling. A large harvest is processed into excellent quality tomato products. Tomatoes can also be dried and frozen. Even pizza lovers have appreciated the dense and juicy pulp.True, it is better not to use Ladies' fingers for juice because of the large amount of dry matter in the pulp.
Agrotechnics
It works best when grown in seedlings, especially in cooler regions. It is advisable to calculate the timing of sowing seeds yourself, taking into account the climatic features. Mandatory picking in the phase of 2 true leaves (about 20 days after sowing) and hardening before planting in a permanent place. Seedlings that are 55-60 days old are considered suitable for transplantation. The planting density is quite dense - 6 - 8 plants per 1 square meter, or you can adhere to the scheme of 30 - 40 cm between bushes and leave up to 70 cm between rows.
Further care is very easy. The description of outdoor cultivation indicates that it is not necessary to form a bush. This is really so, there is no need to pinch the plant, moreover, it is on the shoots that have appeared that a large harvest is formed. Also, the bush does not require a garter. The shoots simply spread along the ground, so mulch can be placed under them in advance, which will not only save the fruits from pollution, but also keep the soil moisture longer. Although without this, ripening tomatoes will not get sick and will not rot. If the summer is rainy, then there is no need to water the tomatoes. The only condition is to choose a sufficiently lit area for planting. But in a greenhouse, the plant is best tied up and led in 2 - 3 stems.
Ladies' fingers are an excellent productive variety for housewives who like to make preparations for the winter, but do not have enough time to care for the crop, or for inexperienced gardeners. Even with minimal maintenance, the culture will show a good result. Unparalleled adaptability allows the variety to be grown in adverse conditions. Seeds for further breeding can be harvested on their own, however, do not forget to process them before planting. The tomato did not show any drawbacks, for which it received the highest marks from vegetable growers.
Varieties
The author of Ladies' fingers L. Myazina offers seed material of two color variations of a well-known variety. They are not included in the State Register.
Crimson
Determinant plant 50 cm high, grows up to 1 meter in the greenhouse. The foliage is weak. Fruits of a beautiful elongated shape, smooth, dense, with thick walls. The color is thick crimson. The taste is excellent. The weight of the tomato is about 100 grams. The pulp does not contain allergens, therefore this tomato is recommended for baby and diet food.
The raspberry variety of Ladies' Fingers is suitable for outdoor use. Sowing for seedlings is carried out 50 - 60 days before the intended planting in the ground. The beginning of maturation in the greenhouse is 95 days after full germination, or 105 days in the open field. The plant is not whimsical, the bush does not need to be pinned, but it is tied up in the greenhouse. Excellent performance is possible if the crop is grown at temperatures between 15 ° C and 25 ° C. Watering should be stopped 2 weeks before the start of the harvest. Prolonged periods of lower or higher temperatures affect the characteristics of the variety. The crop can be used in its natural form, for salting, drying, freezing. Tomatoes keep well. A feature of the variety is early maturity and amicable ripening.
Orange
In appearance, this variety of Ladies' fingers differs from the red-fruited namesake only in orange color. Ripening period - 100 days after the emergence of full shoots. The variety is intended for outdoor cultivation. Seedlings can be planted in the ground after the first flower cluster appears. The culture is resistant to late blight due to the early and harmonious ripening of the crop. The way of eating fruits is universal.
Good grade. Grown in the open field. At first I did not want to tie the fruit for a long time, and then began to bear fruit in full. There are many fruits, very tasty if cooked in your own juice. Similar to the Kaspar variety, but more meaty.
For five years already I have been growing this variety on the site. He only admires me! First of all, because of the original type of fruit. Secondly, it has adapted well to our area. The pulp is fleshy, tasty and aromatic. I have never treated pests! I only get to visit the garden twice a week. During this time, neither drought is terrible for "ladies' fingers", nor rotting of fruits. After collecting, the houses are also stored for a long time, without cracking or deteriorating. I have been growing seedlings since the beginning of February, in April I transplant them under the film. I collect fruits until September. In general, I recommend it to everyone.
I bought this variety by accident, when late frosts destroyed almost all the planted tomato bushes. The seedlings turned out to be very strong and quickly grew. The soil at the planting site was light, sandy, well fertilized. She did not refuse pinching, rather out of habit than out of necessity. A lot of fruits were set, the bushes began to fall, so I tied everything up. Usually, the tops of the elongated fruits begin to rot, but Ladies' fingers remained good and matured on the bushes by mid-August. Used in canning and salads. The last tomato was eaten at the end of November. She kept the crop first in the barn, and with the onset of frost she brought it into the house. An excellent experience of growing this variety. I will plant next season too.
