Tomato variety Krasnobay (F1)
The Gavrish company is famous for its tomato hybrids, which are in no way inferior to the popular Dutch ones. After all, the work of breeders is aimed not only at increasing the yield of varieties, but also at improving the taste, which is very important for hybrid crops. Of those already loved, many gardeners distinguish a variety with the memorable name Krasnobay. After testing, in 2005 the new product was announced by Scientific Research Institute of Vegetable Plant Breeding and Agrofirma Gavrish LLC. In 2006, our hero was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia with admission in the Central, Northern, Northwestern, Volgo-Vyatka, Middle Volga and North Caucasian regions, as well as in the Central Black Earth Region. Recommended for growing under film shelters in personal subsidiary plots. The originators add that the tomato shows good results in glass and foil greenhouses. Krasnobay is a hybrid, therefore it is labeled F1.
Description
The plant is indeterminate, tall, its height exceeds 1.5 meters. Shoot-forming ability and leafiness are average. The leaf is normal in size and shape, slightly wrinkled, dark green. The inflorescence is simple. The first fruit cluster in the variety is laid quite high, above 11 - 12 leaves. Subsequent ones appear every 3 sheets. The variety has one feature - with good fruit setting, with the appearance of the first 3 - 4 brushes, the growth of the bush may slow down somewhat. But after the start of the harvest, growth activity resumes again. The originator recommends to leave no more than 7 - 8 fruit brushes on the stem, as well as carry out standardization of flowers in the inflorescence - in each it is desirable to keep no more than 4 - 5 pieces. Krasnobai's peduncle is articulated.
The fruits are very attractive in appearance, dense, flat-round shape with a slight ribbing at the stalk. Tomatoes are aligned not only within the brush, but throughout the plant, therefore, even in the upper clusters, the size of the fruits practically does not decrease. The skin is strong, even thickish according to reviews. Before ripening, the tomatoes are light green, with a dark spot at the stalk. Ripening, the fruit is evenly poured with a bright red color. The pulp, according to the description of the originator of the variety, is tender, juicy, fragrant. It contains quite a lot of dry matter, so it keeps its shape perfectly when cutting. But some tomato growers call it too tough, even oak, noting that the middle often does not ripen to the end and remains white. The State Register characterizes the taste as excellent. The opinion of gardeners does not coincide with this statement, many people find the taste herbaceous. Of course, the taste of our hero cannot be compared with the bright taste of varietal crops, but when their fruiting period passes, in this indicator Krasnobay has no equal in comparison with other hybrids. There are few seed nests - 4 or more. The State Register recorded the weight of tomatoes in the range of 325 - 371 grams. The originator claims a weight of 300 - 350 grams, the maximum weight is 500 grams.
Variety characteristics
- In terms of ripening, the hybrid is medium late. From emergence to the beginning of fruiting, it takes from 115 to 120 days;
- with the yield of tomato in official sources, there are continuous disagreements. So, according to the State Register, the marketable yield is 7.5 - 8.0 kg per 1 square meter. The originator gives a completely different figure. According to him, up to 40 kg of tomatoes can be harvested from the same area. By the way, almost all gardeners as one support the statement about a very high rate of fruiting;
- the level of immunity of Krasnobay is declared high. This is confirmed by the State Register, noting resistance to fusarium, cladosporium and nematode. Tomato growers also testify to the good health of the plant;
- a big plus is that tomatoes do not have a tendency to cracking, which is very much appreciated in protected ground conditions;
- if not the entire crop had time to ripen by the end of the growing season, tomatoes harvested at the stage of blanche ripeness will perfectly ripen at home;
- the variety tolerates adverse weather conditions well. Even an insufficient degree of lighting will not affect fruiting;
- the transportability of the fruits of Krasnobaya is excellent. Hard tomatoes perfectly tolerate long-term transportation without losing their presentation. Keeping quality, subject to storage standards, is good;
- the originator declares first of all about the salad purpose of the hybrid. But tomato growers are still more inclined to use the crop for processing. From the dense pulp, good quality tomato products are obtained - pastes, sauces. Small tomatoes are perfect for whole-fruit canning, the dense skin can withstand heat treatment. Many housewives, given the dense and low-liquid structure of the pulp, prefer to dry tomatoes.
Agrotechnics
Since Krasnobay is intended for cultivation in greenhouses and is cultivated in regions with relatively stable weather conditions, seedlings are sown quite early - in late February - early March. It is worth noting almost 100% germination of the seed of this variety. During the growth period, seedlings need additional lighting. The pick is carried out in phase 1 of this leaf. Transfer to a permanent place in the greenhouse is carried out at the age of 50 - 55 days. In order not to thicken the plantings too much, the recommended density is no more than 4 plants per 1 square meter. Or planted according to the scheme: 40 cm between bushes and 60 cm row spacing. After transplanting, after a few days, the bushes must be tied to a trellis. A hybrid is formed into one stem, the stepsons must be removed, not allowing them to grow more than 5 cm. Towards the end of the growing season, it is recommended to pinch the growth point so that the plant has more strength to ripen the already set fruits. Maintenance is quite easy and consists of traditional watering, top dressing, weeding and loosening of the soil. In greenhouses, it is important to maintain normal ambient humidity. To speed up the ripening process of tomatoes, the leaves are removed under the brushes that begin to sing.
The Krasnobay hybrid is primarily valued for its stability, high yield and resistance to major crop diseases. Housewives universally use the harvest, so that the winter table will not remain without pickles. Our hero is not capricious in leaving, so even a novice vegetable grower will cope with growing it. True, the variety also has disadvantages. This is the need for tying and shaping a bush. A lot of controversy is caused by the taste of tomato. But, perhaps, the main disadvantage of the variety is the inability to collect seeds on your own.
I grow Krasnobay for salting - the fruits are beautiful, even, fleshy. Ripen just in time for autumn, when the time for harvesting comes. The vagaries of the weather do not care for this variety. Disease resistance is good too. The fruits are very hard, therefore, if they did not have time to ripen, the houses blush beautifully and do not deteriorate.
