Tomato variety Nastena (F1)
There are still gardeners who are distrustful of tomato hybrids, underestimating their advantages. Meanwhile, it is precisely such varieties that are preferred not only in the mass production of vegetables for sale and processing, but also when grown in an ordinary vegetable garden. Hybrid plants are more resistant to adverse conditions and diseases, their fruits have an excellent presentation. True, the taste indicators sometimes do not reach the varietal crops, but if the agrotechnology is carried out correctly, then there will be no complaints in this matter either. Many tomato growers have already made a choice in favor of the proven Nastena variety, which is a new generation hybrid. In 2007, it was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia. Originator and applicant - JSC Scientific and Production Company "Russian Seeds". The culture showed excellent results in the Central Black Earth District, therefore it was there that it received admission to cultivation. Recommended for open ground in personal subsidiary plots. But it can also be grown in cooler regions under film shelters. The fact that the tomato belongs to hybrids is confirmed by the F1 marking.
Description
The plant is determinate, growth rates differ depending on the method of cultivation. In open ground, the maximum height can reach 1.0 meters, in protected - 1.3 meters. The bush is powerful, heavy, with a strong stem. The foliage is small, which will allow the fruits to receive maximum sunlight. In addition, the open type promotes good ventilation of the bush as a whole, which significantly reduces the risk of diseases. Leaves are green, medium-sized, slightly wrinkled. The inflorescences are simple. The first fruit cluster is laid rather low, after 6 - 7 leaves, subsequent ones appear every 2 leaves. Nastena brushes consist of 6 - 8 ovaries. The peduncle of the variety has an articulation.
Tomato fruits are almost one-dimensional, beautiful, dense. The shape is flat-round, the ribbing is poorly expressed. The skin is firm, but not thick, glossy. Unripe tomato is light green, without a spot at the stalk. Ripe is filled with an even red color. The pulp is fleshy, juicy, rather dense in consistency, does not creep when cutting. Seed nests from 4 to 6 pieces. The number of seeds is insignificant. The taste is sweetish. The State Register noted the taste qualities as good, with which most vegetable growers agree. The size of the tomatoes is very good for whole fruit canning. Fruit weight 100 - 150 grams, which is confirmed by the State Register. The maximum weight reaches 300 grams.
Characteristics
- Nastena is an early maturing variety. From the moment of emergence of full shoots to the beginning of fruiting, 95 - 100 days pass. Small adjustments can be made by the weather. But not only it affects this indicator. The conditions for growing tomatoes and proper care are also important;
- the yield of marketable fruits is from 69 to 90%. Such high rates are possible due to the resistance of the fruits of this variety to cracking, even under unfavorable growing conditions;
- the yield, according to vegetable growers, is excellent. According to the results of testing, the State Register gives the following data: the yield of marketable fruits was 176 - 507 c / ha, which is higher than that of the Dar Zavolzhya and Nepryavda taken as the standard. Their indicator is 159 - 495 c / ha. Other sources give data on 16.0 - 18.0 kg per 1 square meter;
- high immunity is one of the main requirements for any culture. And in this regard, our hero does not fail, he is resistant to most major diseases - among them the tomato mosaic virus, late blight. Resistance to verticillium is especially noted, which is capable of destroying plants in a very short time. Tomato resists pests well. But don't just rely on the good health of the variety. The task of each gardener is to support the resistance imparted to Nastena, carrying out preventive treatments on time;
- our hero is able to perfectly adapt to adverse conditions.Plants withstand drop in air temperature well, and while varietal crops suspend fruit formation, they continue to work. Vegetable growers highly appreciated the resistance of the variety to waterlogging, which is especially important in protected ground conditions. These characteristics are confirmed by the State Register. According to gardeners, the hybrid grows well in partial shade and tolerates high temperatures;
- transportability is not inferior to well-known foreign counterparts. Fruits perfectly tolerate long-term transportation without losing their presentation;
- keeping quality will also not fail if you follow the storage standards;
- the way of use is universal. Tomatoes go well with herbs and other early vegetables and are used to make vitamin salads. The fleshy flesh and dense skin make the tomatoes suitable for pickling, and the size is suitable for whole fruit canning.
Agrotechnics
Nastena can be grown by direct sowing of seeds into the ground. This method is often used in the southern regions, waiting for the return frosts to pass. The usual time for direct sowing is the end of April - May. But the best results are achieved thanks to the seedling method. In this case, the seeds are sown in late March or early April. In the phase of 2 - 3 true leaves, the seedlings dive into a separate container. Plants that are 55 - 60 days old, when at least 6 - 7 true leaves have appeared, are ready for transplantation. For example, for planting seedlings in open ground in the Non-Black Earth Region, the optimal time falls on June 5 - 10. A week later, when the bushes take root in a new place, they are tied to a vertical support. The variety can be grown outdoors as a cola crop. Due to the weak shoot formation, leaving is not difficult. Stepping is carried out very rarely, as needed. Many growers prefer to grow a 1-stem tomato. The recommended planting density is 4 bushes per 1 square meter. The soil should be sufficiently loose and highly fertile. The best predecessors are cucumbers, legumes, carrots, cabbage. Watering is carried out with warm water. During the growing season, the plants are fed at least 2 - 3 times using special complex fertilizers containing the NPK complex.
Nasten's hybrid has withstood the test with dignity, becoming a popular crop among both ordinary gardeners and farmers. And there are many reasons for this. It is very easy to care for the plant due to its unpretentiousness, small growth and weak shoots. The tomato is resistant to many diseases, easily tolerates waterlogging, tolerates heat and cold snaps. The marketability of tomatoes is beyond praise - smooth, crack-resistant, fully colored. Of course, gourmets can argue about the taste. But our hero, with the right agricultural technology and sufficient illumination, is quite capable of showing decent taste. In addition, do not discount the fact that it belongs to the early varieties. No major disadvantages have been identified in the variety. Perhaps the main drawback is the need to purchase seed material, since second generation hybrids will not be able to maintain parental characteristics.
