Tomato variety Volovye heart
Among the various “hearty” varieties of tomato, Volovye's heart will not get lost in any way, thanks to the weighty fruits. The variety was announced in 1998 by ZAO Scientific and Production Corporation NK. LTD ". In 2000, it was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia, and received admission in all regions of the country. But it is most profitable to cultivate the species in the southern regions. Recommended for growing in open ground and under film shelters in garden plots, in personal and small farms. Not a hybrid.
Description
The plant is indeterminate, the height, according to various sources, is from 120 to 180 cm. Shoot-forming ability is moderate, leafiness is insignificant. The tomato root system is well developed - the central root deepens into the soil by 1 meter, and the lateral branches can take up space with a radius of more than 2 meters. The leaves of the Ox's Heart are from medium to large, regular shape, long-petiolate, slightly wrinkled, green in color. Yellow flowers form 2 types of inflorescences - simple or intermediate. The first fruit cluster is laid rather high - above 9 - 11 leaves. Subsequent ones are formed every 3 sheets. Each cluster has 3 to 5 ovaries. The peduncle is articulated.
The fruits of the variety are heart-shaped, slightly elongated, medium-silvery, relatively dense. An unripe tomato is colored green with a dark green spot at the stalk, when ripe it becomes pink-crimson. The skin is thin, glossy. The pulp is of excellent quality - incredibly fleshy, low liquid, but juicy, tender, moderately dense, pleasant consistency and very aromatic. From 1 kg of fruit, you can get 700 grams of thick juice, which contains 4.7% dry matter and 2.2% sugar. There are few seeds, the seed chambers, although numerous (more than 4), are very small in size. Taste qualities are excellent, according to reviews, it is Volovye's heart that tomato growers put higher in taste Bovine... As already noted, tomatoes are quite weighty, heavy. Average fruit weight 150 grams, maximum 300 grams (according to the State Register). Seed producers promise 800 and 1000 grams.
Characteristics
- The variety belongs to the late-ripening varieties, a distinctive feature of which is an incredible taste and aroma. From the moment of emergence of full shoots to the beginning of ripening of tomatoes in different regions, it takes from 105 to 115 days;
- the yield is not as high as some gardeners would like, but, nevertheless, 6.3 - 6.9 kg of marketable products can be harvested from 1 square meter. According to other sources, 3-5 kg are removed from one plant;
- the variety has a fairly high resistance to most diseases characteristic of the culture. Many tomato growers confirm the good health of the Ox's heart, but do not forget about preventive treatments;
- at high humidity, especially in greenhouses, the thin skin of the fruit may burst;
- the keeping quality and transportability of tomatoes are not very good: heavy weight and thin skin are not the best combination during the transportation of the crop;
- the purpose of using the fruits of this variety is primarily salad. Therefore, it is recommended not to plant a large number of bushes, so that it would not be a pity to transfer the delicacy product to mashed potatoes and pasta later. Although many praise the juice obtained from tomatoes, which is used as a filling for canning various vegetables;
- if the harvest has met expectations, the seeds can be harvested on their own.
Agrotechnics
To grow a cow's heart, you need, though small, but still experience in the cultivation of large-fruited varieties. But you should not be afraid in advance, leaving cannot be called time consuming. It is desirable to plant the variety with seedlings that are at least 60 - 65 days old. It is best to determine the timing of sowing seeds yourself, taking into account the weather conditions of the region. Seedlings dive at the age of 2 true leaves, and then hardened 2 weeks before transplanting to a permanent place.The recommended density is 4 plants per square meter. In order not to overload the tomato bush, form it into 1 - 2 stems. It is necessary to tie it up, on a trellis or support. Emerging stepchildren are regularly removed. The soil must be fertile and loose; for this, the site is dug up in advance and nutrients are introduced. Without watering and feeding, you will not be able to achieve the desired results. You need to moisturize regularly, but as needed. To retain moisture in the soil longer and suppress the growth of weeds, mulch is used. Fertilize plants at least 3 times during the growing season. To avoid late blight, the plantings are regularly inspected, and, if necessary, urgently take action. At the initial stage of infection, folk remedies can help out, for example, a solution based on milk whey with the addition of iodine.
The cow's heart is an ideal tomato for those who know a lot about the taste of tomatoes. This variety is for the soul and family, since 1 or 2 large fruits can really feed all household members. The disadvantages of the variety are relative. In cold regions, the culture will be able to show a decent result only in the greenhouse, subject to the growing conditions. Well, garter and pinning are not at all a problem for those who are fond of growing indents.
I have been growing a pink heart for the second year in a row. The plants are tall, but within reasonable limits. The seed producers promised 5 clusters of fruits, but even with all the rules (mulching, pinching), only three clusters grew. Each of them had 6 - 7 tomatoes. Tomatoes are not very large, but they will not be suitable for preservation (they will not fit into a jar), only for tomato juice. They are good fresh, the shape is unusual, but the size of the fruits is the same, they are tasty and sinewy.
On my site, I mainly plant large tomatoes. One of the varieties that suits me for absolutely everyone is the pink heart of the cow. It not only tastes great, but also looks great. You just look at him and your appetite already flares up. Unpretentious in leaving. I have been growing from my own seedlings for many years. I water it infrequently and try to treat phytophthora a couple of times a season. I will not say that there are a lot of them on the bushes, but if you take them by weight, they will give odds to many varieties. We eat all summer and use it for all sorts of preparations, from tomato juice to borsch dressings. I even cook ketchup and adjika from them. It turns out not sour, but even slightly sweetish taste. Sometimes you look at a tomato and it's a pity to cut it, it is so beautiful.
This variety is one of my favorites. Its main advantage is its very good taste, firm flesh and drought resistance. They don't need to be watered as often as other varieties. So for people who are not frequent guests at the dacha, this is a very good option. I always grow seedlings myself from seeds collected last season (of course, the Volovye Heart is not very generous in sharing seeds, but that's enough for me). To do this, since autumn I have been preparing the soil and at the end of February I bring it into a warm room so that it warms up thoroughly. I sow the tomatoes one by one in the holes at a distance of 7 - 8 mm. It's troublesome but effective. Usually all the seeds sprout well and no need to thin out. I harden the seedlings 3 - 4 weeks before planting in open soil. It is very important! Then the bushes are strong and quickly take root.I don't overuse fertilizers, because when planting (they have been growing in one place for several years now - under the roof canopy) I always completely change the soil, diluting it with humus, sand (all in equal proportions). But I water it regularly. As a result, for 5 years now I have not bought tomato pastes, ketchups, sauces, because everything is my own!
An excellent variety for salads and fresh consumption. I have been growing it for several years now, planting only a couple of bushes, because it mostly goes for food, you can't put it in a jar. Moreover, I have many other varieties. But this "heart" has a great taste, children love it very much. To make the fruits large, I must put humus and some mineral fertilizers in each hole. The plants themselves are very tall, so I definitely tie them up. Otherwise, the care is the same as for other varieties. I collect seeds myself from the best specimens.
I grew this variety for a couple of years, unfortunately I did not like it. The taste is not sweet, the fruits are not particularly large, the flesh is sinewy and the yield is rather low, only two or three tomatoes per bush. In my opinion, the Bovine Heart tomato is much tastier and more productive. Perhaps it's all about the seed and the producer.
