Cherry variety Vocation
Sometimes it happens that there is almost no useful information about the varieties that have been growing in the gardens of Russians for a long time. Therefore, information about the Cherry Vocation (working title Rosinka) will not be superfluous. This variety comes from Ukraine, it was bred in the Melitopol Research Institute. Author - N.I. Turovtsev. The exact year of creation is not indicated anywhere, the culture is not included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation.
Description
The plant is small, up to 2.5 meters high, looks very neat and is ideal for small gardens. The crown is round. The bark on young shoots begins to darken closer to autumn and turns reddish-brown. There are few lentils. The foliage of the tree is good. The leaves are large, dark green, elliptical in shape with a rounded base and a pointed apex. The edge of the leaf is serrate-crenate. The surface of the leaf plate is matte, with reticulated veins. The petiole is ordinary, uncolored. There are 1 or 2 glands (at the base of some leaves there are none), they are also not colored.
Cherry drupes are very large, weighing 6 - 7 grams. The fruits have an aesthetic appearance - the skin is smooth, glossy, colored deep red, the shape of the berries is round, slightly flattened. The pulp is tender, juicy. Vocation has excellent taste qualities - by 4.6 points. Against the background of the prevailing sweetness, sourness is caught only by a slight note. 100 grams of pulp contains: dry matter 16.48%, sugar 10.03%, acids 0.96%. The stone is small, oval, easily separated from the pulp. The petiole is long and thin, the separation is dry.
Characteristics
- The period when cherries enter fruiting can be judged by the reviews of those who grow this variety - the first crop appears in the 3rd year;
- from the described observations of varietal characteristics, which were carried out at the Melitopol Experimental Station of Horticulture. M.F. Sidorenko IS NAAN, it can be concluded that the beginning of the growing season falls on March 22, the beginning of flowering - April 21, the end of flowering - May 1, fruit ripening - June 2, the end of leaf fall - November 13;
- according to Internet sources, the yield of the vocation is not bad - a seven-year-old tree brings up to 25 kg;
- cherry immunity is quite strong. There is resistance to coccomycosis, moniliosis of fruits, the plant is not afraid of the hawthorn mite;
- the frost resistance of the variety is not bad, given its southern "roots". It can withstand frosts at -25 ° C without any damage. But fruit buds can suffer due to changes in winter temperatures, when the thaw is replaced by frost again. But for a tree this is a small problem, since its recoverability is excellent;
- the plant has good drought resistance;
- ripe fruits may not fall off the branches for a week or a half;
- the transportability of the drupes is not bad;
- the method of using the fruits is universal. Cherries are eaten fresh with pleasure, they are allowed to be processed and preserved.
Pollinators
The vocation belongs to self-fertile cultures. In order for the variety to show its potential, pollinators flowering at the same time as the described species are needed nearby. These include Vstrecha, Melitopol dessert, Rendezvous.
Planting and leaving
The plant is planted in the fall, 2 - 3 weeks before the onset of stable cold weather. The next spring, they begin to form the crown. Watering in the first year of the growing season should be abundant, but not excessive; in subsequent years, the moisture schedule is moderate, taking into account precipitation. It is advisable to choose a sunny place for planting so that the berries are even sweeter. Otherwise, agricultural technology is typical for the culture as a whole.
The vocation is a good purchase for gardens located in regions with warm and temperate climates.Small size, ease of care, yield and winter hardiness - all these are significant advantages when choosing a variety. But it should be borne in mind that the self-fertile cherry needs a pollinator, for which you will have to find a place in the garden.
