Cherry variety Generous

Generous - late-ripening cherry, bred at the Sverdlovsk selection station of gardening. The new variety was selected from one-year seedlings from the random pollination of the Ideal variety, brought to Yekaterinburg from VNIIGiSPR (Michurinsk). The authorship belongs to N.I. Gvozdyukova and S.V. Zhukov. It is worth noting that Ideal, a hybrid of steppe cherry and Pennsylvania, is the progenitor of many high-quality varieties bred in Russia.

In 1955, the variety was sent to the State test. Since 1959 it has been zoned in the Volgo-Vyatka (Sverdlovsk Region, Perm Territory, Republic of Udmurtia), Uralsk (Chelyabinsk Region) and West Siberian (Tyumen Region) regions. Currently, it is approved for cultivation in all regions of the Russian Federation.

The bushes are small, weakly growing (in height - 1.5 - 2 meters). The crown is broadly round, medium leafy, medium thickened. Branches are spreading. Shoots are raised up. Buds are small (4 mm), conical, slightly deviated from the shoots. Leaves of a rich dark green color, glossy, elongated in shape, obovate, with a wedge-shaped base and a strongly pointed tip. The leaf blade is curved. The edges of the leaves are serrated with double-clawed edges. Gland on the base of the leaf - 2 - 4 pieces. The petioles are light green, with a slightly colored top, 1.17 cm long, 0.1 cm thick.

The flowers are white, in the inflorescence there are 3 - 4 flowers. The petals are white, they are located freely. The corolla is open, the size is 2 cm in diameter. The calyx is cup-shaped, the sepals are strongly serrated. The stigma of the pistil is usually located at the same level with the anthers, less often - above the level of the anthers. The length of the stamens is 0.6 cm, the length of the pistil is 0.8 - 1 cm. Flowering takes place in the middle period (from May 20 to May 30). The variety is self-fertile, but in joint plantings with pollinating varieties, it gives higher yields.

Fruit ovaries are formed mainly on annual growths, as well as on bouquet branches. Early fruiting is good: fruiting begins from the 3rd - 4th year of growth. Own-rooted trees live a long time - over 30 years, subject to regular rejuvenating pruning.

Cherry berries Generous below medium and medium size (weighing 3 - 4 grams, height - 1.7 cm, width - 1.8 cm, thickness - 1.7 cm), rounded, with a rounded top, slightly compressed with side of the side seam. The skin is glossy, dark red. The funnel is shallow. The stalks are long - up to 3.7 cm, 0.8 mm thick, firmly attached to the fruit. The separation of the berries from the stalks is dry. The seeds are of medium size (weighing 0.27 g, which is 7.7% of the weight of the berry), round-ovoid, with a wide-round base and a rounded apex, the color is light brown. They separate well from the pulp.

The pulp is dark red, dense, juicy, aromatic, slightly watery, with a mediocre sour-sweet taste. The cherry juice is colored red. By chemical composition, the fruits contain: dry soluble substances (12.2%), the amount of sugars (6.7%), acids (1.5%), ascorbic acid (13.2 mg / 100 g), vitamin P (318 , 2 mg / 100 g). The attractiveness of the appearance of the berries is assessed on a tasting scale high - 4.6 points. Taste qualities according to the tasting scale are good - 4.4 points. By appointment, the variety is table. Used fresh, suitable for processing (compotes, juices, preserves).

Generous fruits ripen late, in the second half of August. The process of maturation itself is not simultaneous, i.e. stretched out in time. The crop is harvested in several stages (starting in August, finishing in early September). The variety is not prone to shedding. If overripe, the berries do not crack. Yields are annual, above average (up to 15 kg / bush).

The level of winter hardiness of wood and buds is assessed as high. Flowers tolerate spring frosts well. The variety is drought-resistant. The degree of resistance to coccomycosis and moniliosis is average. Resistance to pests is generally high, but in some years trees may be slightly affected by cherry aphids and cherry slimy sawfly.

In the state farms of the Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions, the variety has earned a high production rating. It can be used as an industrial and amateur culture. Has value for breeders in terms of winter hardiness, yield, self-fertility and good quality of fruits. Suitable for intensive gardening.

Among the main advantages of Cherry Schedra: a high level of winter hardiness and self-fertility, annual high yields, good consumer properties of the fruit.

Significant disadvantages include a prolonged period of fruit ripening and an average resistance to coccomycosis and moniliosis.
