Apple variety Antey

This winter apple variety was obtained by breeders of the Belarusian Research Institute by crossing the winter variety Belorusskoe raspberry and a hybrid of winter varieties Newtosh and Babushkino.

In 1996, the Antey apple tree was entered into the State Register of Varieties and Trees and Artisanal Species of Belarus as especially valuable in terms of productivity and economic properties.

Plant characteristics

The tree is medium-growing, reaching a height of 2.5 meters. Has a thin, slightly branched crown of a pyramidal or round shape. The sparse-tiered structure of the crown makes it easy to carry out shaping pruning.

The branches of the tree are light brown in color. Shoots of medium thickness, dark brown, round or slightly faceted in cross section. Lentils are rarely scattered.

Large dark green leaves have an elongated oval shape. The base of the leaf is rounded, the top is pointed. The edges of the leaf are predominantly with rounded teeth. The network of veins is immersed in the leaf plate, with convex areas between the ramifications. The leaves are attached to the shoots with long petioles. Stipules are lanceolate or semilunar in shape.

Fruiting is predominantly ringed, occurs at 2 - 3 years and is characterized by regularity. Fruit buds are already forming on 2-year-old wood. The Antey apple tree lays fruit buds annually. Therefore, in unfavorable years, when the yield of other apple varieties is significantly reduced, Antey bears abundant fruit. The yield is up to 50 kg from one adult tree (or up to 40 t / ha when laying a garden according to a 5 × 3 m scheme on medium-sized rootstocks).

This apple tree has increased frost resistance. Even harsh winters are well tolerated.

Requires preventive treatment with pesticides, because Antaeus is moderately resistant to pests, but it is affected by scab.

Fruits are large and very large - weighing 200 g or more. They do not shrink even under unfavorable conditions. The shape is rounded-conical, slightly flattened, with a mildly pronounced ribbing. The main color of the fruit is green, the integumentary color is a deep red or burgundy color in the form of a blush blurred over the entire surface. Most of the fruits have a waxy coating, which gives them a bluish tint. The fruit saucer is deep, of medium width, with pronounced folds. The sepals are tightly closed and the calyx is usually closed. A semi-open calyx is rare. The fruit funnel is deep, covered with a rusty bloom from the inside. In fruits that occupy a central position on the pouch, the peduncle is short; in other fruits, it is longer. The seed chambers communicate with each other through the axial cavity. Seeds of the Antey variety are wedge-shaped, faceted, dark brown in color. A medium-sized heart is in the shape of an onion. The sub-cup tube is short, funnel-shaped.

Depending on climatic conditions, apples are eaten in late September or early October. The consumer ripeness of the fruit occurs 2 months after picking. The consumption period lasts from November-December to April-May.

The greenish juicy pulp of a pleasant dessert sweet-sour taste has a light fragrant apple aroma. Tasting score - 4.3 points.

The fruits of the Antey apple tree are of universal use. They are consumed fresh, can be used for all types of processing.

The Antey apple tree belongs to commercial varieties, since it is distinguished by low-cost and simple agricultural technology, stable high fertility, good transportability and keeping quality of fruits. After harvest, the crop is stored without damage in a cool, ventilated room for up to 6 - 7 months.
