Apple variety Dream
Dream is a summer apple variety bred by the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Horticulture named after V.I. I. V. Michurin. Obtained from crossing 2 fairly well-known varieties - Folding x Pepin saffron... It is often found in the plantings of collective farms and in private household plots located in Central Russia.
The trees are medium in size, the crown has a spreading, rounded-conical shape. Fruits are of medium and large size, the mass of one apple is on average 140 - 150 g, but in general it can be in the range from 100 to 200 g. It is noted that the largest fruits (200 g) grow more often on a dwarf rootstock, the smallest (from 100 to 150 g) - on seed. Apples are one-dimensional, regular round shape. According to the main color, the fruits are greenish-white-yellow. The coat color is delicate, in the form of a streaky pink-red (carmine) blush on the sunny side of the fruit.
The pulp is snow-white with a pinkish tinge, slightly loose consistency, slightly aromatic, juicy, very good balanced sweet and sour taste. Tasting score - 4.5 points. Fruit ripening occurs in early August. Apples are stored for a short time - 1 - 2 months. The purpose of the variety is universal - fresh consumption, conservation, processing.
In an apple tree grafted on a seed stock, the first fruiting occurs usually in the 4th year of growth. However, with a favorable warm climate and on a dwarf rootstock, trees can begin to bear fruit as early as the 2nd year of growth. The average yield is 120 kg of fruits from one tree, the maximum recorded yield was 150 kg from one apple tree. It is important to note that the variety is prone to periodic fruiting (after a year) under unfavorable growth conditions (severe winters, dry hot summers, depleted soil
The overall winter hardiness of the Dream apple tree is at a fairly high level. It is quite resistant to scab and other diseases.
The main advantages of the variety: elegant fruits with excellent taste, high yield, early maturity, fairly high winter hardiness.
Among the main disadvantages: short storage of fruits, periodic fruiting under unfavorable growth conditions, the tendency of fruits to rupture and crack on them with uneven watering during ripening (for example, after a long drought). Also, some gardeners note the poor "liveliness" of this apple tree with clonal rootstocks.
My dream settled on my site 8 years ago as a result of a funny incident. I went to the market to specifically look for a dwarf summer apple tree of a new variety, but the seller was tempted by the offer to buy White filling. And I could not resist the time-tested variety. The misconception was dispelled the next year, when the apple tree tied several fruits, and they grew huge, with a bright streaky pink blush on barrels turned to the sun. The shadow side, in a state of full ripeness, was white and pink. The apples taste delicious. True, the fruits were enormous only in the first three years. When there were a lot of them, they began to shrink to 150 g, but they still remain the same tasty and elegant. It is convenient to pick, even now the height of the tree is about 2.5 m. But the wind picks the apples from the upper branches - as they ripen, they fall down together.
