Winter beauty - late winter apple tree, bred at the All-Russian Institute of Selection and Technology of Horticulture and Nursery as a result of crossing varieties Antonovka ordinary and Red Delicious. The authorship belongs to the amateur breeder E.M. Kamendrovsky. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the regions of the Central and North-West regions.
The trees are medium-sized, the crown is rounded-conical, spreading, medium thickened. This apple tree is characterized by a mixed type of fruiting.
Fruits are above medium and large size (apple mass is on average 160 - 175 g, but can reach 200 grams or more; according to some sources, fruits grow very large - up to 400 g), leveled, chiseled, regular conical shape, with a smooth surface ... The main color of the fruit is yellow-green, the integumentary color is a blurred purple blush on a significant part of the fruit or over its entire surface. Subcutaneous points on the skin are not visible. The stalks are straight in shape, medium in thickness and length. The funnel is narrow, acute-conical, of medium depth. The saucer is smooth, wide, of medium depth.
The pulp is snow-white, fine-grained, medium density, prickly, very juicy, moderately aromatic, with a good, pleasant sweet-sour taste. Tasting assessment of the taste of apples - 4.3 - 4.4 points.
The fruits ripen at the Winter Beauty at the same time, at the end of September (about the 25th). The consumption period begins immediately after harvesting from trees. Under normal conditions, apples are stored until the beginning of January at the most, after which point rot appears on them; in a refrigerator, the fruits retain their freshness for a rather long time - until March - April (maximum 200 days).
A fast-growing variety - bears fruit from the 4th - 5th year after planting. The yield is good (above average). Despite, in general, rather abundant yields (up to 150 kg / der.), The variety may show periodicity in fruiting to a low degree.
The apple tree is highly winter-resistant and relatively resistant to scab (it is extremely rarely affected by the fungus). Frost resistance - up to minus 34.8 ° C.
