Cucumber variety Athena (F1)
Athena is a hybrid of an early ripening cucumber obtained in the Dutch agrofirm Nunhems B.V. in 2005. Designed for outdoor cultivation. In 2008, it was entered into the state register of plants in Russia for the North Caucasus region (Stavropol and Krasnodar Territories, Rostov Region, the Republics of Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkarian, Adygea, North Ossetia-Alania, Chechen, Crimea).
The variety is parthenocarpic (does not require pollination by bees), generative type (forms the bulk of the crop on the central stem). Suitable for commercial production. Can be used for early cultivation in heated greenhouses in winter-spring circulation.
Plants of medium vigor, weakly plaited, indeterminate, exclusively with female flowers. Form Athena into one stem. Recommended planting density - 2.8 - 3.5 plants / square meter.
Cucumbers are leveled, homogeneous, with large tubercles, cylindrical, weighing 70 - 90 grams, 10 - 12 cm long. The skin is dark green, with pronounced whitish stripes reaching the middle of the fruit. The thorns are white. Pubescence is of medium density. The yield of marketable fruits is 183 - 274 c / ha, which is 51 - 86 c / ha higher than the Aist standard. The yield of early production is up to 96 c / ha, which is 52 c / ha more than the standard. The output of marketable products is 81 - 97%.
A variety of salad purposes, but also good in salting.
This hybrid is resistant to olive spot (cladosporium), cucumber mosaic virus and powdery mildew, relatively resistant to downy mildew.
Advantages of Athena cucumber: early maturity, transportability, excellent taste of fresh fruits, disease resistance.
Cucumbers Athena have been grown by me for a long time. I love them for the same fruits, in height and volume, which is very convenient for pickling in jars. They are ideal for pickles, both for cans and for barrels. The cucumber remains juicy, crunchy, firm.
In the garden, this variety loves a lot of water. Therefore, it is better to water both in the morning and in the evening. Then the fruits will be slightly sweet. In general, the plant is unpretentious, it does not require pollination - this is important for those who are growing in the suburbs.
Ripens at the end of July, perfect for the first green salads. I tried to plant both seedlings and seeds, but sprouted - the best seedlings, since growth begins faster, and the bushes will be stronger. It is imperative to tie up Athena, otherwise the lashes will be everywhere and you will not be able to approach the cucumbers.
