Rose Chantal Merieux
How wonderful it is to feel the flower scent in the air as you walk through the garden! It is doubly pleasant if the culture spreading a magical fragrance is the queen of flowers, whose buds are distinguished by tenderness and purity of shade, and therefore delight the eye. This is exactly what the Chantal Merrier variety is.
History of origin
The beautiful flower has been known to the world for 20 years already. It appeared in 1999 in France, where it was bred by breeder Dominique Massad. Among other varieties created by the specified specialist, the described variety of roses is realized by the Guillot nursery. Chantal Merieux is a variety from the Generosa series, belonging to the scrub type. By the nature of flowering, it is sometimes referred to the floribunda class. Other culture names: MASmaric, Maschame.
Description
Our heroine is a shrub that grows up to 1.2 meters in height. It is a very vigorous crop with strong, slightly branching shoots and dense, bright green, glossy foliage. The crown of the bush does not exceed 70 cm in diameter. In general, the rose bush looks very neat and even compact.
Each shoot of an aristocrat is crowned with a large, up to 12 cm in girth, with a double cup-shaped flower. Often, the central part of a blossoming bud is squared, in other words, it is divided into 4 identical sectors. The flowers of the noble plant are kept in pink tones, often with a soft lilac tint. Each rose inflorescence is formed by 70 rounded medium-sized petals. The outer petals frame the main part of the bud beautifully. The scent of the flowers of this variety is quite intense, sensual and can be defined as a mixture of aromas of myrrh, anise, rose oil, in which there are fruity notes of strawberry, raspberry and cider. The fragrance exuded by the perennial is dizzy, like a glass of good wine.
Chantal Merrier blooms profusely, in waves, throughout the season. A feature of this rose is the resistance of flower petals to sunlight: under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, even on the hottest days, the rich pink color of the buds does not fade. They are not afraid of magnificent flowers and rain. Chantal Merieux is a fairly winter-hardy variety that is not harmed by a drop in air temperature to -29 ° C. It is also worth noting the high resistance of the shrub to powdery mildew, rust and medium resistance to black spot and other diseases.
Features of agricultural technology
The place on the site for the French beauty should be sunny. However, light shading in the summer season will not hurt the plant, especially at noon. However, even in its absence, flower petals are unlikely to suffer from burns. The culture does not like drafts, therefore it is not recommended to plant it in the most open spaces.
Perennial prefers loose soils with high nutritional value. The substrate in which the rose is planted should not be too heavy or, on the contrary, light - moderation is important here. You can use ordinary leaf or garden soil by mixing it with a little peat, humus and, if necessary, sand. As usual, in addition to the soil itself, mineral fertilizers are applied to the planting pit. After planting the plant, it needs to be well watered.
During the growing season, it is necessary to moisten the soil under the Chantal Merier bush regularly. Water for these purposes is taken soft, not cold. Watering is desirable in the evening, 1-2 times a week. The rose also needs periodic top dressing: in the spring - with organic fertilizer, rich in nitrogen; at the stage of bud emergence, at the peak of flowering and after the flowering of the culture - with mineral concentrates, containing mostly phosphorus and potassium. Taking care of the owner of fragrant rosebuds also includes loosening the soil under the bush and weeding.
An important note on pruning: it should only be corrective to give the perennial a neat shape. In this case, weak branches are removed to stimulate growth. Such pruning is necessary for the plant in the spring. In the fall, the culture is deprived of unripe shoots and growing parts. Long stems are bent to the ground. Shelter Chantal Merieux for the winter is very desirable. In order to further reduce the susceptibility of the plant to diseases, it is worthwhile to prophylactically spray the perennial with a fungicide solution 2-3 times during the growing season. The rose is also protected from the possible appearance of pests by treatment with an insecticidal preparation.
Use cases
Chantal Merrier can be placed in single plantings or grown in groups of 3-5 bushes. This variety is excellent for the role of a tapeworm, as it is distinguished by its splendor and abundance of flowering, a pleasant shade and an enchanting aroma. It looks good on flower beds and borders along garden paths. The noble culture is used to decorate hedges. In this case, French roses must be planted at least 50 cm apart. If you do not neglect formative pruning, a wonderful perennial can be made an effective element of rockery. As for color combinations, in group plantings, an ornamental shrub should be combined with plants whose inflorescences are blue, lilac or yellow.
