Orlinka apple variety
Orlinka is a summer apple variety obtained in 1978 at VNIISPK through pollination of the American variety Stark Erliest Prekos with pollen from the First Salute variety. The authorship is assigned to a group of domestic breeders: E.N. Sedov, Z.M. Serova and N.G. Krasova. In 1994, the variety was accepted for State testing, and in 2001, it was zoned for the Central Black Earth Region.
Trees are tall, the crown is characterized by a rounded shape. The branches have a straight shape and are distinguished by a compact arrangement on the trunk, from which they form sharp corners. The ends of the branches are directed upward. The surface of the bark on the trunk and main branches is smooth and dark gray in color. The fruits are tied in most cases on simple and complex ringlets, as well as spears.
Shoots are quite thick, fleecy, brown in color, slightly geniculate, in cross section - rounded. Lentils are small in size, present in large numbers. The buds are compressed, large, elongated-conical in shape. The leaves are large, round-ovoid, long-pointed, with helical twisted tips. The surface of the leaf blade is matte, wrinkled, with a delicate venation, concave shape, with a downward curvature. On the upper side, the leaf blade is medium pubescent, on the lower side, strongly pubescent. On the edge of the leaves are large-wavy, with coarse serration. Petioles are thick, long, with pubescence, at the base - anthocyanin color.
The flower buds are large, fleecy, elongated-conical in shape. The flowers are large, small-saucer-shaped, light pink in color. The petals are medium-closed, with slightly raised edges, and can be rounded or oblong in shape. The stigma of the pistils can be located below the level of the anthers or at the same level with them.
In terms of size, the fruits of the Orlinka apple tree are medium or larger, the weight of one apple can range from 100 to 210 g, but the average is 150 g. Apples are one-dimensional, oblique, rounded or flattened-rounded, slightly ribbed (wide ribs). The skin on the fruits is smooth, dry, with a glossy sheen. During the period of removable maturity, apples have a greenish-yellow basic color, during the consumer period - light yellow. The cover color is expressed by red stripes running along the carmine background and occupies most of the fruit surface. Subcutaneous dots are light green, well visible, few in number. The peduncles are short, curved in shape. The funnel is small in size, narrow, conical in shape. Half-open cup. The heart is large, round in shape. The seed chambers are large and open. The sub-calyx tube is rather long, funnel-shaped. Seeds are small in size, dark brown in color, round in shape.
The pulp of apples is creamy, coarse-grained, prickly, dense, juicy, pleasant sweet and sour taste, aromatic. The attractiveness of the appearance and taste of the fruit is assessed on a 5-point tasting scale of 4.3 points. In terms of chemical composition, apples contain: the sum of sugars (9.5%), titratable acids (0.8%), ascorbic acid (6.6 mg / 100 g), P-active substances (314 mg / 100 g). In addition to fresh consumption, apples are well suited for all types of home processing.
In the conditions of the Oryol region, the fruits ripen in mid-August (earlier than the Melba). The consumption period is short, apples are stored for about 2 - 3 weeks - usually until the beginning of September.
The variety is fast-growing, the trees enter the fruiting season in the 4th - 5th year after planting. The yield of the variety is high (150 c / ha), in the plantings VNIISPK surpasses Melba. In the conditions of Central Russia, the winter hardiness of the variety is quite high, the resistance of leaves and fruits to scab damage is very high.
The main advantages of the Orlinka apple tree are: high rates of early maturity and productivity, high commercial and consumer qualities of apples with summer ripening, high resistance to scab (to all 5 races) and high frost resistance (above Melba).
Speaking about the disadvantages of the variety, a somewhat prolonged period of fruit ripening on the tree is distinguished. Many experienced gardeners note that the fruits of the Orlinka apple tree can ripen until mid-September. At the same time, the fruits often become transparent ("glassy"), the pulp is looser, watery, the taste of apples deteriorates.
