Autumn joy is an early autumn apple variety bred at VNIIS im. I.V. Michurina from a hybrid family Cinnamon striped x Welsey... The author is S.I. Isaev. The variety is zoned for the Central region.

The trees are vigorous, the crown is quite dense, in shape - rounded, hundred-like, similar to the shape of Cinnamon striped trees. The bark on the trunk and skeletal branches is brownish in color. Fruiting of a mixed type, but mainly concentrated on fruit twigs.

Shoots are dark red, straight, rather thick, with strong pubescence. Lentils are colored light yellow, are rare, and can be rounded or elongated in shape. The buds are large, gray in color. The leaves are dark green in color and are of medium size and oblong-ovoid. On the edge, the leaves are wavy, with serrate-crenate serration. On the surface, the leaf blade is wrinkled, fleecy, slightly convex in shape, with an upward curvature along the central vein. Petioles are thin, long.

In terms of size, the fruits of the Autumn Joy apple tree are medium, the weight of one apple is usually about 110 - 135 grams. The apples are flat-round, slightly conical. According to the main color, the fruits are golden-green, the integumentary color is expressed by a bright red blush with the addition of blurred stripes and strokes. On the skin, subcutaneous spots of gray color are also slightly visible. The peduncles are quite thick, close to medium length, each of them slightly extends beyond the borders of the funnel. The funnel is medium in depth, rather wide, with a slight rustiness. The cup is medium-sized, closed. The saucer is wide, shallow, folded. The heart is medium in size, bulbous. Seed chambers are half-open. Seeds are medium in size, ovoid, reddish-brown in color. The sub-cup tube is of medium length and tapered.

The pulp is white, with a creamy shade, medium density, juicy, tender, pleasant dessert, sour-sweet taste, with a spicy aroma. By chemical composition, the fruits contain: the sum of sugars (10.2%), dry matter (12.6%), titratable acids (0.3%).

The period of removable maturity falls on the end of August - beginning of September (first days of the month). The fruits remain fresh for up to 1 - 1.5 months.

At the time of fruiting, trees enter the 4 - 5 year after planting in the garden. The yield of the variety is high, 20-year-old apple trees yield up to 150 kg of fruit. Fruiting is annual. The level of winter hardiness is very high and is not inferior to the Cinnamon striped. The resistance of fruits and leaves to scab damage is quite high.

The main advantages of the variety are: high frost resistance; bountiful annual harvests; weak scab damage; attractive appearance, rather large size and dessert taste of the fruit.

The main disadvantages of the apple tree Autumn joy can be attributed to: the departure of skeletal branches at an acute angle, a weak level of branching in trees, brittle wood in seedlings in a nursery.

The variety is recommended for growing in areas with a rather harsh climate and limited opportunities for fruit growing. Among them are a number of regions of the Central and Central Black Earth regions: Moscow, Vladimir, Tver, Yaroslavl, Ivanovo, Smolensk, Ryazan, Kaluga, Tula, Bryansk, etc.
