Apple variety Solntsedar
Solntsedar is a summer apple variety bred at the Sverdlovsk Experimental Gardening Station through sowing Anis scarlet Vorobyevsky seeds from free pollination. The author of the variety is P.A. Dibrova. The variety is zoned in the Volgo-Vyatka and Ural regions.
The trees are of medium vigor, the crown is quite dense, wide-round in shape, spreading, slightly thickened, in old apple trees it looks a little drooping. The main branches, when leaving the trunk, form a wide angle, the bark on the trunk and the main branches are brown in color. Young branches are rather thin. On young apple trees, fruiting is concentrated on spears and short perennial ringlets, starting from three to four years old wood, with age, fruit setting occurs on ringlets of two years old.
Shoots are dark brown in color, of medium thickness, with strong pubescence and short internodes, their shape in cross section is round. Leaves are medium in size, elongated-oval or elongated-ovate in shape, with a slight glossy sheen of a noticeably bluish tint, their tips are narrowed, the edges are with rounded serrated serration. The leaf blade is rather thick, rounded at the base, significantly pubescent from the lower part. Segments and lobes can be found on individual leaves. The leaves are located at an angle of 90 degrees or more to the shoot. Petioles are of medium length, thick, with very small styloid stipules.
Flowering occurs in the second half of May. The flowers are rather large, saucer-shaped, white in color with a slight pinkish tinge, stigmas of pistils are at the same level with anthers or slightly lower. The buds are pink. The sunflower is self-fertile, so cross-pollination is required. The best pollinating varieties: White filling, Wine, Suislepskoe.
The fruits of the Solntsedar apple are medium or smaller than the average size, the weight of one apple usually ranges from 75 to 110 grams. The shape of the apples can be regular flat-round or truncated broadly oval; on some fruits, there is a slight ribbing (obtuse ribs). The peel of apples is dry, smooth, a glossy sheen and a gray waxy coating are visible on the surface. Subcutaneous dots of light color, rather large in size. The main color of the fruit is light cream, almost white, the integumentary color is very elegant and bright, expressed on a significant part of the apple surface in the form of a pinkish-scarlet dense painting, often turning into a continuous blur. The stalks are rather short, of medium thickness. The funnel is average in depth and width, rustiness is present. A small saucer with pearls (i.e., tubercles), a half-open cup. The sub-cup tube is almost saccular in shape. Seed chambers are closed, the axial cavity is not pronounced.
The pulp is snow-white in color with small streaks of a reddish hue, coarse-grained structure, tender, juicy. The taste of apples is good sweet-sour, with a slight tart aftertaste. According to the chemical composition, the fruits of the apple tree Solntsedar contain: the sum of sugars (from 10.2 to 12.3%), dry soluble substances (from 12.8 to 15.7%), titratable acids (0.86%), ascorbic acid ( from 11.7 to 23.2 mg / 100 g), P-active substances (or catechins, from 176 to 267 mg / 100 g).
The period of removable ripeness of fruits falls on the first half of August. But it is worth noting that the variety is prone to rapid shedding, so it is important to monitor the ripening process of the crop and harvest it in a timely manner. Under normal conditions, fresh apples are stored for a short time (no more than 10 days), in a refrigerator - no more than 1.5 - 2 months. In this regard, the fruits are intended to be eaten fresh immediately after harvest, they are also well suited for conservation purposes.
Trees enter the fruiting season relatively late, 7 years after budding. In general, the yield of the variety is quite high (about 100 kg of fruits from one tree), old apple trees are prone to periodic fruiting.
The winter hardiness of the variety is very high. Resistance to leaf and fruit scab is rather low.
The main advantages of this apple tree are: fruits with an exceptionally beautiful appearance and good taste, high yield and winter hardiness, early ripening.
The main disadvantages: extremely low resistance to scab and periodic fruiting of trees in adulthood.
Despite the resistance of the Solntsedar apple tree to the harsh conditions of the continental climate of the Urals, it is preferable to plant trees in a sunny place. Due to the tendency of the crown to thicken, it is necessary to regularly prune trees.
Extremely short stalk, which is why the fruits squeeze out the other, dropping unripe.
