Cucumber variety Ajax (F1)
Ajax is a bee-pollinated early maturing cucumber hybrid marketed by the Dutch company Nunhems B.V. In 2000, the variety was added to the state register of plants of the Russian Federation for garden plots, home gardens and small farms. Designed for growing in open ground (in greenhouses, pollination by bees is difficult). Suitable for industrial production.
Plants are indeterminate, open type, vigorous, climbing, with a predominance of female flowers. The leaves are dark green, medium in size, with medium to severe wrinkles. In one leaf sinus, from one to three ovaries are formed. Due to the large size of the plants, it is recommended to grow them on a net or trellis.
Moderate formation of stepchildren is genetically incorporated in the Ajax variety. In this regard, the following scheme for the formation of bushes should be applied: at the initial stage, stepchildren are removed in the first 2 - 3 nodes of the main stem; then all stepchildren are left up to a height of 80 - 100 cm, pinching them after 2 - 3 sheets; above 100 cm in height, the stepsons pinch after 4 - 5 sheets.
Zelentsy are cylindrical, with large tubercles, dark green, with short light stripes and a whitish tip, 9-12 cm long, 3-4 cm in diameter, weighing 90-100 g. White, frequent pubescence. The skin is harsh. There is no bitterness in cucumbers. Marketable yield - 4.9 kg / sq. Meter. Daily collection of fruits is required. Fruiting lasts until the frost.
The hybrid is characterized by amicable formation of an early harvest. Resistant to high air temperatures, slight cold snaps and a complex of diseases (brown spot, cucumber mosaic virus, powdery mildew). Plucked fruits do not turn yellow for a long time.
The variety is universal - suitable for fresh consumption and preparation for future use. However, gardeners' reviews indicate mediocre taste in fresh fruits of this hybrid and very high in canned ones.
Advantages of Ajax cucumber: stable yield, abundant early fruiting, transportability, heat resistance, marketability, immunity to diseases, suitability for growing on pickles.
