Young Naturalist, or Yunnat, is a mid-autumn apple variety. Bred by the All-Russian Research Institute of Breeding. Michurina I.V. in 1935 by crossing an autumn variety Cinnamon striped and winter grade Welsey... The work was carried out under the guidance of an outstanding breeder S.I. Isaeva. In 1993 he was entered in the State Register for the Volga-Vyatka region.
The apple tree reaches a height of 3-4 m, the growth rate is average. The crown is rounded, densely leafy, compact, drooping from a large harvest. The branches extend from the trunk at almost right angles.
As a rule, it bears fruit on ringlets. Can bear fruit on fruit twigs.
The bark of the tree is dark brown with a brown tint. The shoots of medium thickness are also brown in color, but several tones lighter than the bark of the tree. Shoots are weakly genital, poorly pubescent. Small lentils are rarely scattered.
Leaves are medium-sized, elliptical, short-pointed. The dark green leaf has a matte finish. The plate is slightly concave, pubescent on the underside. With the age of the tree, the reverse side of the leaves is covered with a more noticeable edge. The shape of the leaf edge is coarse-serrate or serrate-crenate. The petiole is of medium thickness and medium length. The venation is pronounced, the central vein is deeply immersed in the leaf blade.
Stipules at the base of the leaf are small, lanceolate.

The apple tree is highly frost-resistant. In the most severe winters, only slight freezing was observed, which did not affect the yield. The variety is highly scab resistant. Leaves and fruits are not affected by scab or are slightly affected even in rainy seasons.
Trees of medium fruiting periods, the first harvest is taken from 5 - 7-year-old apple trees. The yield is increasing gradually. With age, the yield increases significantly, but becomes irregular (after a year).
Apples Young naturalist of medium size (average weight - 130 g), fairly uniform, flat-round, regular shape. The surface of the fruit is smooth, without wax deposits. The skin is of medium density. The main color of the fruit is yellow-green, the integumentary color is elegant - bright red blurred stripes over most of the fruit. There are few subcutaneous points, they are subtle, whitish in color.
Thin stalk of medium length. The funnel is shallow, with a slight rusty coating. The cup can be closed or half open. A saucer of medium width and medium depth, grooved. The cup tube is short and funnel-shaped. The seed nest is bulbous with half-open seed chambers. Medium-sized dark brown seeds.
The pulp is creamy, tender and juicy, medium density, fine-grained. Sweet and sour dessert apple. Rated by tasters at 4.5 points.
The fruits contain 14% dry matter, 0.55% titrated acids, ascorbic acid - up to 5 mg / 100 g, sugars - 9.6%, sugar content in relation to acid - 17.5.
Fruits of this variety are ready for picking at the 20th of September; they reach consumer maturity at the beginning of October. Apples are good to eat fresh until mid-December.
The fruits have good transportability and are suitable for any type of processing.
Apple-tree Young naturalist is recommended for industrial cultivation.
Tried apple versus People's from I.S. Isaeva. On September 2, both were mature. Sweet, with sourness, the taste is almost the same, tasty, pleasant, but Naturalist is a little harder (both apples were from the tree).
