Potato variety Slavyanka
Slavyanka is a medium-ripening Ukrainian table potato variety (Solanum tuberosum). Bred by specialists of the Institute of Potato Growing of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences. In 2009, 5 years after filing an application for admission, it was included in the state register of breeding achievements of the Russian Federation. Zoned in the Central black earth region (Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Tambov regions). It adapts to various climatic conditions and soils, requires an increased amount of fertilizers. One of the most popular varieties in Ukraine.
From the emergence of full shoots to harvest, it takes 100-120 days, depending on the region of growth and the nutrient composition of the soil.
The plant is tall, of an intermediate type. The main stem is semi-erect, the lateral ones are moderately spreading, with an abundant amount of green mass. The leaves are small, open-type, dark green in color, with slight waviness at the edges. Corolla of medium size, violet-blue in color. The variety produces few berries.
In one nest, 7-15 large aligned tubers with an average weight of 91-180 grams are formed, some specimens can reach 250 grams or even more, and this phenomenon is quite frequent. Slavyanka tubers are oval elongated, sometimes irregular. The peel is partially red in color, rather it can be characterized as light pink with a purple tint; in some parts of the tuber, patches that have “faded” to an almost beige color can be seen. The flesh of the cut potato has a creamy color. The eyes are small, shallow.
Marketable yield is at a good level. According to the results of state tests, it amounted to 181-334 c / ha, which is comparable to the standard Lugovskoy and 83 kg / ha higher than the indicators of Aspia. The maximum amount was obtained in the Kursk region - 392 centners of tubers were harvested from one hectare, 197 centners / ha more than the established standard. Marketability is at a very high level - 88−99%. Keeping quality is also excellent - 95%.
The variety has very good taste. The tubers are medium boiled, they do not lose their shape and color during heat treatment, which makes them look attractive when finished. Best of all, they are suitable for frying, and deep-fried, including stuffing, cooking, baking, making soups, salads and vegetable mixtures. This variety is not particularly suitable for mashed potatoes. The pulp has a normal consistency, not watery or dryish, there are slight sweetish notes in the taste. Starch content 11.1-13.4%.
Slavyanka can grow on a wide variety of soils in different climatic conditions, however, good yields in regions that are unusual for it can be achieved only with the help of competent agricultural technology. Plants are very sensitive to the nutrient and mineral composition of the soil, that is, on poor soils, you cannot do without increased doses of fertilizers. You should think about whether it is worth growing this particular potato on an area with insufficiently fertile soil, or still choose another one that is more adapted to such growing conditions.
As for agricultural technology, in this regard, the variety is quite simple. Plants do not require excessive care, but they respond well to such standard measures as hilling, loosening the soil, weeding, preventive treatment against pests and diseases, feeding and watering. We have already talked about fertilizers, but as for irrigation, it should be abundant. It is especially important not to allow the soil to dry out, and waterlogging too. The importance of maintaining crop rotation and timely renewal of seed should also be mentioned.
Potatoes are resistant to golden cyst nematodes, the causative agent of cancer. According to the originator, resistant to leaf-rolling virus, wrinkled and banded mosaics.
Slavyanka is one of the best, delicious Ukrainian varieties.Gardeners love it, first of all, for its excellent taste, excellent presentation, as well as for a fairly high yield, excellent keeping quality, resistance to many diseases. But to achieve good results, the correct competent agricultural technology is necessary, therefore, it is better for novice potato growers to choose a different variety for growing.
The disadvantages include the exactingness of potatoes to soil fertility and the need for abundant fertilization in the soil. Also, to the disadvantages, you can add the dependence of the amount of harvest on the weather conditions of the season. However, reviews on this matter differ - someone believes that Slavyanka is an unreliable variety, others praise him for its high yield in bad seasons, when other varieties are experiencing a complete fiasco. In general, our hero has a lot of potential, and with proper care, he will definitely reveal himself to the maximum!
I have been growing it on my site for five years now. The soil is alumina, so not all varieties give a good harvest. I stopped at Slavyanka and Crimean Rose, but I only use Slavyanka for roasting, baking or salads. It is not suitable for first courses and mashed potatoes. It boils down poorly, although I like the taste of it. It does not require any special troubles when growing - I add fertilizing during planting and before flowering. I water abundantly during the same period. A month before harvesting, I give complete rest, I don't even touch the weeds. This variety deserves attention - if it gives birth well in our heavy soil, then I can imagine what kind of harvest will be in loose sandy soil. I advise.
Doesn't it boil over? Surprisingly, on the contrary, it falls apart!))) She has one nuance, on different soils it has different taste. Somewhere super, but somewhere not very.
