Potato variety Uladar
Uladar is a potato variety (Solanum tuberosum) of early ripening. Received by the staff of the Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Potato and Fruit and Vegetable Growing. Bred as a result of crossing Kolya and Zhivitsa varieties. Included in the state register of the Russian Federation in 2011, in the state register of the Republic of Belarus - in 2008. Approved for cultivation in the North-West (Vologda, Kaliningrad, Kostroma, Leningrad, Novgorod, Pskov, Tver, Yaroslavl regions) and Central (Bryansk, Vladimir, Ivanovo, Kaluga, Moscow, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tula regions) regions of Russia. Authors: G.I. Piskun, I.I. Kolyadko, L.N. Vologdin, V.L. Makhanko.
From the emergence of full shoots to harvest, only 50 - 65 days pass.
Seedlings are uniform. Plants are semi-erect, of medium height, intermediate type, intensively growing tops. Stems are thin, uncolored. Leaves are green, medium size, intermediate type; the shares are average; the edge of the leaf is slightly wavy; average venation. Inflorescences of medium size. The number of flowers is average. Corolla red-violet, medium size. There are few berries.
The recommended planting density when grown for food purposes is 50 - 55 thousand tubers / ha, when used on seed plots - 60 - 65 thousand tubers / ha.
Uladar potatoes are suitable for growing on all types of soils, but it works best on light and medium-sized soils. Differs in early tuberization and rapid yield accumulation in the first half of the growing season. It responds to an increase in the background of mineral nutrition by increasing the share of the marketable fraction and the number of tubers.
Tubers are oval and elongated-oval, medium and large in size, with light yellow flesh. The peel is smooth, yellow. The eyes are superficial, very small. The number of tubers in the nest is 8 - 12 pieces. Marketable tuber weight - 90 - 140 grams.
The yield of commercial tubers is 130 - 350 kg / ha, which is at the level of the standard Luck and 70 c / ha higher than the standard Zhukovsky early... On the 45th day after full germination (first digging), the yield is 70 - 160 c / ha, which is at the level of standard varieties. On the 55th day (second digging), the yield is 165 - 260 c / ha, which is at the level and 35 c / ha higher than the indicators of the Zhukovsky early standard. The maximum yield is 425 c / ha, which is 140 c / ha higher than the indicators of the Dolphin standard (data for the Tula region). Marketability is high - 90 - 95%. Keeping quality is high - 94%.
A table variety with good and excellent taste, culinary type B (cooking chips and fried potatoes). The digestibility of tubers is poor. Resistant to darkening of the pulp. Starch content 11.5 - 17.8%.
The dormant period of tubers is average.
Uladar potatoes are highly resistant to viruses (X, Y, L, A). Resistant to the causative agent of potato cancer (pathotype 1), wrinkled and banded mosaic, as well as to the golden potato cyst nematode. Medium resistant to leaf twisting, alternaria, dry fusarium rot and late blight causative agent (leaves + tubers). Prone to defeat by rhizoctonia. The tubers are resistant to mechanical damage.
Advantages of the variety: high yield, good disease resistance, high taste, rapid formation and uniformity of tubers.
Disadvantages: picky about agricultural technology, it is on this potato that the Colorado potato beetle first settles.
According to Vadim Makhanko, who participated in the breeding of the variety, Uladar (translated from Belarusian - "lord") got its name after the release of the film "The Lord of the Rings".
