Cucumber variety Relay (F1)
The relay is a time-tested medium-ripening cucumber hybrid obtained by breeders of the V.I. VI Edelstein (Moscow), who today are employees of the agricultural firm Manul. Included in the state register of the Russian Federation in 1983. Approved for use in seven regions of Russia: Middle Volga, North Caucasian, Central Black Earth, Volgo-Vyatka, Central, North and North-West. Great for industrial cultivation. Authors of the variety: A.V. Borisov, G.I. Tarakanov, V.S. Krylov and T.P. Banshchikova.
Bee-pollinated variety, salad type. Designed for growing in greenhouses in winter and spring circulation. The period from germination to picking the first cucumbers is 53 - 66 days.
Plants are weakly or moderately branched, predominantly of the female flowering type, with self-regulating branching and good vigor. The leaves are rich green, large in size. When planted in the spring-summer turnover, the plant bears fruit until late autumn.
When forming in a winter greenhouse - when planting in January, when there is not enough lighting - the lateral shoots of this hybrid are left, starting from the 8 - 9 node of the main stem, pinching them after 1 - 3 leaves. After the plant reaches the trellis wire, it is wrapped 1 - 2 times around it and the stem is lowered down, pinching it one and a half meters from the ground.
Fruits are even, large-tuberous, fusiform, with a thin elongated neck (outwardly similar to pins), 15-22 cm long, 4-4.5 cm in diameter, weighing 180-220 g. The skin is dark green, with white stripes up to a third of the fruit ... Pubescence is rare, complex. The thorns are white. The pulp is sweet, juicy, crispy, aromatic. The seeds are small and tender. When the Relay is grown in winter greenhouses, the yield reaches a record 25 - 44 kg / m2. The fruits do not lose their marketability for several days and tolerate transportation well.
The variety is characterized by increased shade tolerance, high plasticity to environmental factors, resistance to the cucumber mosaic virus and tolerance to root rot. At elevated night temperatures, a large number of male flowers (which do not bear fruit) are tied. To avoid this, a little prevention should be carried out - 10 - 12 days before planting the seedlings and then for another two weeks the air temperature should be maintained at 16 - 17 ° C.
Pluses of cucumber Relay: high yield, attractive appearance of fruits, excellent taste, marketability, transportability.
The disadvantages include: the formation of bitterness in the fruits in the heat and with insufficient watering.
