Rose Masquerade
Floribunda is a great variety of roses for the garden. Many noble plants belonging to this group create a festive atmosphere in the garden. This statement is especially relevant for the Masquerade variety, which has a unique color of flower petals.
History of creation and description of appearance
A culture with a positive name Masquerade appeared in 1949. The place of her "birth" was North America, more specifically - the United States. The breeder Boerner worked on the variety, who obtained a beautiful perennial by crossing the Goldilocks and Holiday varieties.
The main advantage of this plant over other roses from the floribund group is the presence of absolutely charming flowers on a strong, globular bush with powerful shoots. At the bud stage, they have a yellow-orange color, and when they open, they first acquire a pale pink, and a little later - a rich raspberry hue. Such variability of the color scale allows you to enjoy the contemplation of a decorative perennial throughout the entire period of its flowering. By the way, it is due to such an extraordinary color that the plant got its memorable name.
It should be noted that the flowers of this shrub are semi-double, medium-sized (no more than 7 cm in diameter). They are formed in inflorescences of 5-15 pieces and exude a light, unobtrusive, but at the same time quite pleasant aroma. Masquerade blooms profusely, in waves, as befits a floribunda. This phase lasts from early summer to October. In autumn, the place of flowers is taken by ripening fruits. The advantages of the variety include a small number of thorns on the surface of the stems, an average thickness and a fairly high strength of the shoots; dark green shade of small leathery leaves contrasting with bright, elegant flowers. The height of the rose usually does not exceed 100 cm. The width of the rose bush is similar.
This plant is not very susceptible to bacterial and fungal diseases, it can withstand a drop in air temperature down to -30 ° C. Its flowers are not afraid of rain and direct rays of the sun, under which they do not bake and practically do not fade.
Growing and care
Masquerade cannot be called whimsical. He needs standard care, consisting in regular watering, periodic feeding, timely removal of weeds, obligatory loosening and mulching of the soil in the zone of the trunk circle, as well as spring and autumn pruning of shoots. The rose is suitable for cultivation even by a novice florist. To place the culture, choose a place in partial shade or moderately sunny. It is better not to plant the plant in the lowlands, since stagnant moisture after rain and cold air masses increases the risk of diseases and pests on the ornamental shrub. Good air circulation is important for Masquerade, but it should be protected from drafts.
Rose soil needs light, nutritious, slightly acidic. It is advisable to use loamy soil for planting an elegant variety, but in the absence of such an opportunity, an ordinary garden or vegetable garden substrate, improved by adding humus and peat to it, is also suitable. To increase looseness, sand is introduced into the soil mixture. At the bottom of the planting pit, a layer of gravel or fine crushed stone is necessarily laid as drainage. If this is not done, the rosette may die as a result of decay of the root system. By the way, in order to moisten the substrate, water is used exclusively settled and slightly warmed up in the sun. It is not recommended to water the plant in the middle of the day.
Pruning a rose is of a sanitary nature, but it can also be used to shape an overgrown bush and to thin out the crown.Very weak, thin, diseased, dry branches are subject to removal. Before the onset of autumn frosts, all shoots, including strong ones, are cut off. The bush is spud with dry soil and covered with spruce branches for the winter. If the cultivation of a crop takes place in a region with harsh climatic conditions, give preference to a more serious insulation.
Use cases
Masquerade is perfect for rose gardens. It looks great in a front garden, a flower garden, it is appropriate in a large garden of any style. Landscape designers use this variety of roses for landscaping parks, squares, areas near rest homes, boarding houses.
The smart American Masquerade will adorn group and mixed compositions, but is also good in monoplantings, especially against the background of a bright green, neatly trimmed grass lawn. It can be placed in the foreground of the site, thus focusing on the culture. The plant is also suitable for the design of low hedges, flower beds, framing garden paths. Among other things, it is incredibly effective combined with miniature conifers.
This variety was acquired during a sale at an exhibition in her city, in Tatarstan. A rose is a capricious flower, there is always a fear that it will not take root. But the fears did not materialize. She looked after, as well as for other varieties, in a standard way: she planted on ordinary soil in the garden, fed, watered. In the first year it bloomed. I have already safely survived the first winter. I didn’t regret that I bought it.
