Tomato variety Monomakh's hat

Monomakh's hat is one of the best varieties of pink tomatoes, which has been grown by summer residents on their plots for more than one year. It was bred back in the distant 2000s, entered in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation in 2007.

Description of the variety

This is a mid-early variety, the growing season is 110-120 days. The bush is low, up to 1.5 m, compact. Leaves are small in size, dark green in color. Fruits are round, flattened, few seeds, when ripe they acquire a pink tint, with biological ripeness they become dark scarlet, do not crack. Juicy tomatoes, sweet and sour taste; not subject to long-term storage. The content of dry matter in them reaches 6%. The fruits can be used fresh, in seaming and for obtaining tomato juice. The average weight is 500 g, but with proper agricultural technology, you can get fruits up to 1 kg. The output of a tomato from one bush is 5-8 kg, from a square meter to 20 kg. The variety is not susceptible to many diseases of tomatoes, in particular late blight.

Growing

Seeds usually begin to prepare for planting in early March. Before sowing, they must be etched in a 2% solution of copper sulfate or in a solution of potassium permanganate for 30 minutes. After the seeds are placed in a damp cloth and kept for a day. They are planted in containers with prepared moist soil (1 part peat, 1 part earth, 0.5 parts sand) and covered with a film to create a microclimate for germination. When germinating seedlings, the containers should be ventilated; when the first leaves appear, the film is removed. The seedlings are placed in a warm and sunny place. When the first five true leaves appear in the seedlings, they dive into separate containers. After the dive, fertilizing should be carried out with minerals - fertilizers containing nitrogen and phosphorus.

The variety was originally created for open ground, but it can also be grown in protected ground, while the yield level does not change. The seedlings are planted on a permanent place of growth when the average daily temperature reaches 15-17 degrees, around the end of May. The soil must be treated with dolomite flour, tomato Monomakh's cap does not tolerate acidic soils.

A pinch of superphosphate is added to the dug hole, then the hole is spilled with water and the plant is placed in it. It is desirable to plant up to 4 plants per square meter. Planting scheme - 50 × 40 cm. 10 days after planting, tomatoes can be fed with fertilizers containing phosphorus.

To obtain fruits of maximum weight, the plants are formed into one stem, 3 ovaries are left in the brush. When grown in two stems, the fruits reach a weight of only 400 g, but the number of fruits increases dramatically. When the first flowers appear, the ugliest flower on the first brush is removed, only three of them should remain. If this is not done, subsequent brushes will receive less minerals and their formation will stop. In case of mass flowering, the plant can be treated with a 1% solution of boric acid on the leaf, for maximum fruit setting, and fed at the root with potash fertilizers. At the beginning of fruit ripening, the lower leaves are removed. One leaf is enough for fruit growth on one cluster.

Although the tomato of this variety is not susceptible to diseases, at least three preventive treatments with fungicidal preparations should be carried out (Ridomil Gold, HOM, Metaxil, Quadris etc.). Pest insects usually do not attack tomatoes.

Following the above rules for growing a tomato Monomakh Hat, you can easily get a large harvest of fruits. Good luck!
