Apple variety Hornist
Apple-tree Hornist is a summer variety obtained by the breeder L.A. Kotov. at the Sverdlovsk gardening station. It was bred in 2 stages: first, the variety Cinnamon striped was pollinated with a mixture of pollen from the Ural varieties, after which the resulting hybrid No. 2−8-2 was free pollination. The Gornist variety reproduces intensively mainly in amateur gardens. Zoned across the West Siberian and Volgo-Vyatka regions in 2002.

A vigorous, powerful tree has a pyramidal crown at a young age. As they grow older, the crown grows and takes on a wide pyramidal shape. The main branches are raised up and covered with a flaky reddish bark. Fruiting occurs on the ringlets.
Dark brown shoots of the Hornist apple tree are straight, densely pubescent, the distance between adjacent nodes of the shoot is short. Green dull leaves are highly pubescent, wide, as a rule, ovoid, less often rounded-oval. The leaf plate is flat, shortly pointed, with finely crested raised edges. The leaf is attached on a short petiole, the stipules are small, subulate. The central vein is rough, deep in the leaf blade.
The rose buds later turn creamy. They bloom into large flowers in the shape of a saucer, have white petals bent upward with wavy solid edges. The petals are loosely closed together. The pistils are distinguished by long columns, the stigmas are located above or at the level of the anthers.
The apple tree is self-fertile, well pollinated by other summer varieties. After grafting the buds on the rootstock, the tree begins to produce crops for 4 - 8 years. Productivity is consistently high, on average up to 90 kg / ha. There is no frequency of fruiting.
Apple-tree Hornist is distinguished by extremely high frost resistance, comparable to the variety Uralets... The variety is undemanding, has a strong immunity to scab.
Fruits are medium, weighing 90 - 110 g. They are firmly attached to the tree. In shape, the fruits are oblong, ovoid, with weakly pronounced ribs. All are one-dimensional. The apple funnel is narrow, pointed conical, not rusted. The saucer is small, narrow, grooved. The cup is closed. The mid-length tube is cylindrical in shape. The heart of the fetus is ovoid with half-open seed chambers.
The skin of the fruit is smooth. The main color of apples is cream, the integumentary color is bright red with an orange tint. A striped-speckled blush is spread throughout the fruit. There is a slight bluish bloom.
The pulp is creamy, coarse and somewhat coarse, but very juicy. Sweet and sour taste was rated by the tasters at 4.4 points.
Chemical analysis showed the content of dry soluble substances in fruits in an amount of 11.5%, of which sugars - 9.3%, organic acids - 0.7%, ascorbic acid is small - 11 mg per 100 g of wet weight. The average content of P-active substances is 254 mg / 100 g.
Removable and consumer maturity coincide in time and fall on the 20th of August. Gornist apples are not stored for long. After removal, they are consumed within 20 days. They are good for fresh consumption and for processing. The variety is valuable for the production of juices. High-quality fruits, beautiful appearance.
