Apple variety Cinnamon new
Cinnamon new - apple variety selected by VNIIS them. I.V. Michurin with fruits of late autumn ripening, obtained through hybridization Cinnamon striped with American variety Welsey... The authorship is assigned to the domestic breeder S.I. Isaev. In 1950, the variety entered the State Test. Since 1965 it has been zoned in a number of regions of the North-West (Kaliningrad, Pskov) and Central (Moscow, Pskov, Bryansk, Smolensk) regions. This apple tree is very widespread in private and industrial plantations of the Non-Black Earth Belt.
Trees are vigorous. At a young age, the crown of apple trees has a pyramidal shape, but over time it becomes more spreading, thick and takes on a highly rounded shape. Skeletal branches are strong, forming sharp corners when they leave the trunk. The bark on the trunk and skeletal branches is colored brown, in the conditions of the nursery, the bark has a brownish color with a cherry tint, there are white lentils. Fruits are tied mainly on ringlets, less often on long, hanging fruit twigs.
Shoots are thick, straight, with strong hairiness, brown in color. The leaves are large in size, painted dark green, the shape of the leaves varies from elongated ovate to broadly ovoid, their tips are drawn back, sometimes strongly bent, the edges are with coarse serration. The surface of the leaf blade is wrinkled, with strong hairiness. The petioles are thick, medium in length, anthocyanin color, to the shoot are located at an acute angle. Stipules are small, lanceolate.
The flowers are large, pinkish-white in color, the stigmas of the pistils are located at or below the level of the anthers. Flowering takes place in medium terms (2nd half of May).
Cinnamon apple fruits are new of medium size and larger (the apple weighs in the range from 120 to 160 grams), regular round-conical or round, slightly flattened shape, rather one-dimensional, smooth. The peel of apples is thick, smooth, with a large number of rusty or grayish subcutaneous punctures. According to the main color, the fruits are colored greenish-yellow or light yellow, the integumentary color is expressed on a significant part of the fruit or on its entire surface through a blurry striped and speckled blush of a dull red color. The stalks are rather thick, and can be short to medium in length. The funnel is medium in width, deep. The calyx is very large, half-open type. The saucer is large, deep, folded. The heart has a turnip shape. The sub-cup tube, slightly protruding into the heart, can be funnel-shaped or conical. The seed chambers are small, half-open or closed. Seeds are large, pointed-ovoid, brown in color.
The pulp is creamy, medium density, tender, juicy, aromatic, sweet-sour dessert taste, with a pleasant aftertaste. The taste qualities of this apple tree are as high as those of the best southern varieties. By chemical composition, the fruits contain: the sum of sugars (10.35%), titratable acids (0.89%), ascorbic acid (14.5 mg / 100 g), P-active substances (115 mg / 100 g). The purpose of the fruit is universal (fresh, processing).
The moment of the removable ripeness of the fruit falls on the beginning of September, the consumption period begins after 3 - 4 weeks. In the crown, apples are evenly distributed and do not crumble when ripe. The potability of the variety is average; in a refrigerator, the fruits remain fresh for 3 months (until January). The marketability of fruits is high.
The early maturity of the variety is closer to low: usually the trees enter the fruiting season no earlier than 6-7 years after planting. Young apple trees bear fruit moderately, but over time, the yield increases smoothly. However, mature trees are prone to periodicity in fruiting. But in general, the yield is assessed as high: the average is 180 kg / ha for trees aged 15 - 20 years.
The apple tree is relatively winter-hardy, according to this indicator, Cinnamon new is slightly inferior to the parent variety Cinnamon striped. The variety is resistant to fungal diseases, its field resistance to scab is high.
The obvious advantages of the Cinnamon new variety are: quite large one-dimensional fruits with a dessert taste and high commercial qualities; high rates of winter hardiness and scab resistance.
The main disadvantages include: periodic fruiting and its late onset, a relatively short storage period for fruits.
Also, inconvenience can arise during harvesting due to the tall crown and the release of skeletal branches at sharp angles. It has also been noted that the fruit often cracks during the dry summer season when it rains.
